Adress: Piazza del coloseo 1, 00184 Roma

The Colosseum is one of the first things that comes to mind when thinking of Rome. All the old gladiator fights, horse races, and believe it or not even boats were sailing in there once. Can’t go to Rome without paying this wonderful arena a visit!

Opening hours

The Colosseum, Palatine hills and Roman forum (which are very close to the Colosseum) are open every day except 25/12, 1/1 and 1/5. Last admission is 1 hour before closing.

To avoid as much people as possible, I suggest you to go when they open in the morning, as we did. We are usually up pretty early as we have small kids who doesn´t like to sleep in. So this works for us perfectly.

Entrance

You will find the entrance at Sperone Valadier near the arch of Constantine.

The entrance is free under the age of 18. If you happen to be in Rome on the 1th Sunday of the month you can go in for free. But be prepared to not be alone that day.

How to get there by metro

If you choose to go to Colosseum by metro, the closest stop is Colosseo on the line B. From the metro stop you only need to walk 5 minutes to the entrance.

You find the public transportation maps here below. The first link will take you to a page with useful maps of Rome and public transportations. The second link will take you to the metro stops of the B line.
