When we started planning our trip to this big beautiful European city, we asked our self how many days to stay? Is 4 days enough, or do we stay longer?
I believe it all depends if you bringing kids on the trip or not! If you bring kids then it all depends on the age of the kids for sure. As every parents now you canĀ“t rush from one place to another, many things need to be countered for, going from point A to B can be an expedition.
We went with 2 young kids and spend 4 days in Rome. We had a wonderful time, and believe we had enough time to explore town. We always plan what we like to do, and then double the time to be able to do it together with the kids.
But the question remains how many days do you need, to explore Rome? Lets take it step by step. First question first! What would you like to see in Rome?
I would say Colosseum, The Vatican, The Trevi fountain, Pantheon and Spanish steps, This covers most of the common places to visit, while in Rome.
Now depending on how many days you have, lets see what you can handle per day!
1 Day in Rome: Colosseum for sure! If you have a hotel in the center I suggest you start early over at the Trevi fountain, and after take a walk over to Colosseum. Make sure to book a ticket before going. this way you don’t need to waist valuable time by standing in ques. Take your time time to embrace the atmosphere, either on your own or by a guided tour.
The surroundings just next door to colosseum is included in the ticket price and if you want to spend a few hours wandering around you have the opportunity to do so. If not you can see some part of the Forum Romana while walking back to town.
While in the area a wonderful view over the are is found behind Piazza Venezia. Just need to climb all the stair to get up first.
2 Days in Rome: Start the morning by going to The Vatican city before the big crowd of tourist are coming. If you are up early take a walk to visit the Trevi fountain on the way, and head over to The St Angelo’s Castle to have the nicest view possible of the Vatican City.
Make sure you have your ticket before going to be sure to see all you like to see. To visit the Basilica and the tombs are free. I believe the nicest way to enter the Vatican is to start from The Angelo Castle. I recommend to spend the afternoon exploring the Colosseum area.
3 Days in Rome: Now you can start to plan what you like to see in which order. One day Colosseum area, one day The Vatican and Trevi fountain, Spanish steps, Pantheon and all the lovely Piazzas. One day Piazza popolo, Parc Villa Borgehse. Even will have time to take a stroll in Trevestere.
4 Days in Rome: As above but now you have a full day to just walk around and explore the city and take the day as it come.
Hope this will help with the planning for you. Just remember to buy the tickets needed before going to save time for other things than standing in que.
Have a happy trip and don’t forget to eat ice cream in Rome!
