Address: Piazza di Spagna 00187 Roma
The Spanish steps are located at the Piazza di Spagna, where you also will find the Fontella della Baraccica fountain. This piazza is one of the most famous squares in Rome, and you will understand it after climbing the 135 steps to reach the top where you have a beautiful view. We arrived in the morning and didn´t need zig zagging through the crowd of tourists. If you are here on a romantic trip with your loved on, this is a wonderful place to come in the evening after dinner.

It is not allowed to sit on the stairs and you might even get a fee of over 100€ if you do so. The same apply for eating as well. So have this in mind while climbing to the top, as it might cost you your dinner for the evening if you do so.

Fontella Della Baraccica
In front of the stairs you find the fountain fontella Della Baraccica. The name means fountain of ugly boat, but is not referring to the sculpture in the fountain. It refers to the story of the boat that stranded on the same spot when Tiber flooded at the year 1598.
How to get there by metro
The nearest metro stop is Spagna on the Metro line A.
It only takes about 5 minutes by foot to the top of the steps, and you can enjoy the view immediately. This might be cheating as you don’t climb the stairs. We took the longer way that takes 10 minutes by to the bottom of the stairs. So we started to work our way up to the top and really deserved the nice view after.
