We had the opportunity to visit Rome in end October/beginning of November. Weatherwise was wonderfully warm and sunny. This got me thinking, were we only extremally lucky with the weather, and when is the best time to visit this wonderful European town?
Lets look at the different options according to the season.
I think that in the beginning and the end of the year it must be both cold, risk for snow or raining constantly. https://www.holiday-weather.com/rome/averages/january/
Early spring must be nice when the days are longer and no big winter jackets, scarfs and gloves must be put on all the time before going outside.
I wonder about late spring, early summer lets say May/June. All the trees and flowers are blooming, and warm in the sun. Must be a lovely time to stroll around in Rome and take a coffee outside in the cafés. https://www.weather-atlas.com/en/italy/rome-weather-may
In the middle of the summer July and August must be hot and sweaty. Who wants to be in a big town and look for shadow as every other one million tourist. https://weather-and-climate.com/Rome-July-averages
In the early fall must be nice as well, less warm and walking in Rome while the colors start to shift must be nice. https://www.holiday-weather.com/rome/averages/october/
If you are planning to go to Rome with kids as we did, I think the best time is in October or early spring. Due to the milder weather, and lets not forget it is not high season for tourist to go there either at that time. We had a lovely time in Rome with small kids and could even let them run around in many of the squares, at least in the morning.
